Upcycling

Upcycling furniture is the process of giving new life to old, run down furniture. If done correctly, the furniture can appear new and unused. There are endless reasons why you should start upcycling.

Define Upcycling:

Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value. Upcycling is the opposite of downcycling, which is the other half of the recycling process.

One:

It is so much cheaper. Why get rid of old furniture just because it is outdated or doesn’t match the theme of a room anymore, when you can transform it to match your own specific needs?

Two:

It is better for the environment, as less raw materials are being used for production, which then means less air pollution is caused. It also means that less materials are being wasted, as the products are not completely discarded.

Three:

You can use almost anything to upcycle. From wallpaper, to paint, to old hats! Look at this image below. You would never think that the furniture here was once a pair of old tyres. It’s amazing what you can do when you put your creative mind to it.

Four:

No one else will have it! It will be a complete one-off, bespoke piece because it wouldn’t have been mass produced. It will be to your own taste and you can have the satisfaction of knowing you put in that hard work to make it what it is.

At Camerich, you have the opportunity to upcycle your sofas too! We offer removeable dry-cleanable covers on most of our ranges, in our vast assortment of fabrics and leathers. So if you want to change the colour or texture of your sofa, why spend a fortune on a whole new one, when you can simply upgrade the fabric on it, without compromising a thing!
