As we see more and more new, modern and stylish buildings going up in the city we start to see a modern take to living- and this includes an open plan home. More and more we have people coming in to our showrooms with open plan living/dining/kitchen areas and not sure what is the best way to furnish them to make full use of their space.
There are a couple of things you need to consider; where are the doors and the windows? How much natural light comes into the room? Do you want to use furniture as a divider to separate the living room and kitchen? Or would you like everything to facing a focal point or simply the middle of the room?
Take the windows for example, are they are floor length? If so, maybe consider having your sofa facing them so that nothing is blocking out the light coming into the room, and nothing blocks the view.
If you have beautiful French doors you could make these the focal point of your room with your sofa facing outwards looking out into the view or over your garden.
If you wished to break up your room, the popular choice would be to use the back of the sofa. What about if you used the dining table instead? This creates a centre point to the room where the family gather to eat their evening meals, or the kids do their homework.
As you can see there are lots of options to consider when trying to work out the perfect layout to your open plan home. At Camerich, we offer our Design Service to help. If you bring us your floorplan, one of our design consultants can start to build 3D representations of your home and start sketching some options with our furniture in your space so you can visualise what would work best for you. If you do wish to enquire about this all you need to do is give one of our showrooms a call.
